During pregnancy a woman’s body undergoes loads of changes, which mainly include extra weight gain and hormonal changes. According to nutritionists, for at least first three months of post pregnancy a woman should concentrate on eating healthy food instead of “weight loss”. Reason being, the new born is completely dependent on the mother’s milk; as a result there is nutrient depletion from the mothers body which will lead to other complications later like osteoporosis, if not taken care of in this phase. Many side effects are seen due to pregnancy, which can be taken care through proper diets. Some of those side effects include hair loss, stretch marks, and changes in the shape of the breasts. Along with physical changes a woman also undergoes a lot of emotional and psychological changes like change in sleeping pattern, getting emotionally attached to the new born. Managing household chores along with taking care of the needs of the newborn turns out to the toughest work for a woman post pregnancy.
Due to these changes in the surroundings, many women face the problem of insomnia, which further precipitates as frustration and stress. Excessive stress can lead to lack of breast milk production. Therefore, it is very important to provide the mother and the newborn child a stress free environment. This also helps the body to recover faster. After the first three months pass by, one should consult a dietitian to lose excessive weight, in a healthy way without crash dieting.

Unfortunately, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I say unfortunately, because many of us don’t eat a healthy breakfast. Our lives are so busy, we are rushing to get the kids ready, then rushing to work.
Many parents will provide breakfast for the kids, but then not eat any themselves. This sets a poor example for our children and increases the chances that they will abandon breakfast themselves. If you are dieting, you should realize that skipping breakfast increases the chance of a poorly chosen mid-morning snack. Studies show that those who skip breakfast usually eat more during the day than those who start their day with a healthy breakfast.
So, how can we resolve the morning rush with the need to stop and eat a healthy breakfast? I won’t even say to get up earlier, because for most of us, that isn’t happening. But if we plan ahead, we can have a healthy breakfast every morning, even if we eat it as we dash out the door.
There’s no law that says you have to eat breakfast foods for breakfast. Let us reconsider breakfast, choosing easy to prepare foods or meals that can be prepared ahead and then microwaved quickly at the last minute. Read the rest of this entry »

So, you are ready to make some changes in your family’s diet. You’ve heard and read enough to know that eating Real Food is important to your family’s health and happiness. You know what your kids eat when they are young not only affects their health now, but also in the future. You are feeling good about your decision. Your intuition is supporting you. The science is behind you. Unfortunately, your kids are not on the same page.
They are complaining about the fresh fruit. They practically ‘throw-up’ seeing anything green on their plates, and they’re secretly calling Grandma to tell her about this unfair abuse. Don’t despair. It’s temporary. It might be intense, but it’s almost always temporary. Stick to your goal of creating a healthier and happier family, and stay connected with other moms who are doing the same thing.
The following ideas help hundreds of moms get through the bumps of changing their children’s diets. The more you do to educate and involve them, no matter what their ages, the greater the chances your journey will be a little smoother.
Educate your children, without making a really big deal about the changes. Talk about how, just like a car needing good gas, our bodies run the best when they have the nutrients they need. A car would break down if you put something besides fuel in the tank. The same with our bodies when we put too many anti-nutrients in.

Getting take out food has never been easier. Of course you have always had the option of going to fast food locations that seem to be on every corner in town. Yet that food gets old quickly and it isn’t always the best for you to be consuming. These days there are plenty of great options out there for you to choose from. Most of your favorite sit down restaurants likely offer some convenient take out options for you as well.
Parents learn that their lives drastically change when they have children. Even eating out at a nice restaurant can be a challenge at times. Luckily, you can just get the food you want and then bring it back home. It is great for active children who have a hard time sitting at the table in a restaurant for the entire meal.
If you are alone with the kids though don’t worry. Many restaurants are also offering curb side service. You can call ahead, place your order, and then park in one of the parking spots reserved for take out orders. You can call to tell them you have arrived and your food will be delivered to your vehicle. It doesn’t get any more convenient than that!
This is definitely more than we got in the past where you had to go inside, place the order, and wait for it to be prepared. With the fast pace that most of us live these days, businesses that cater to us are going to be very successful. It is the wise restaurant owner that is willing to see the need for such efforts to keep up with the desires of consumers.

Today, more and more people are being food health conscious. Salad bars are now introduced to fast food chains, and this shows how people nowadays are trying to watch what they eat. This could be attributed to the growing and alarming number of obese people in the US, and now that people are more aware about food health, they are trying to curb their cravings for fatty foods.
However, it’s not just about avoiding oily and fatty foods. It’s about eating the right kind of diet containing all the essential vitamins and minerals that our body needs in order to function properly. Unfortunately, not many people know what a true balanced diet is. As a result, they end up missing out on important nutrients that the body requires.
In order to achieve and maximize our food health, we must consume food from all food groups in the right amounts. This will help us maintain a healthy body weight, and it could prevent or reduce several diet-related diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, some cancers, and osteoporosis.
Fruits and vegetables should cover 33 percent of the plate, or at least 5 portions each day. This is to give us the antioxidants, fiber, and essential vitamins our body needs. Food choices that you might want to try include a small dessert bowl of salad, 1 medium carrot or tomato, medium piece of apple, orange, or pear, 6 strawberries, ½ grapefruit or avocado, 2 tbsp vegetables, 2-3 tbsp peas, lentils or beans, or 1 cupful of grapes, berries and cherries.

Few dietary trends have been or are as prominent, prevalent, and influential as the movement towards dining out in general and fast food in particular. Dating back as far as the 1940s with the birth of McDonald’s the fast food trend continues unabated today, despite a modern wave of so-called “health initiatives.” In spite of a slew of new diets, new exercise regimens, and even new lawsuits, statistics consistently show that the United States population - along with the populations of many developed countries - is getting fatter by the year.
Causes of the Obesity Crisis
Why is fast food so harmful? The obvious and traditional answer is because of sheer caloric excess. A recent, 15-year study showed that young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who ate at least 2 fast food meals a week were, on average, 10 pounds fatter than those who did not. It’s also no secret that fast foods are soaked in oil and fat, saturated with sodium and sugars, and designed with convenience and taste, rather than nutritional value, in mind. However, can this be the only reason?
With the recent trend towards (or at least, lip service towards) healthy lifestyles with managed calorie intakes, frequent exercise, and even target nutrition, one would think that the “obesity epidemic” would be feeling the effects. Statistics, however, show otherwise. While some blame (perhaps rightly) these disappointing numbers not on fat, sugars, or calories, but on the layers of artificial additives on virtually all fast food items, others researchers have begun to look at the fast food trend as part of a larger, social change. In their eyes, modern American culture makes it all but inevitable that diets will fail, people will relapse into unhealthy habits, and the obesity rate will continue to increase.

What is “the power of regeneration” and how do you get it from all natural foods and health drinks? Regeneration is the opposite of “degeneration”, which is what happens to the human body over time if not treated properly. Most people in the world today are in a constant state of degeneration, but those who have discovered the secret of concentrated nutrition are revealing the power of regeneration.
The Philosophy of Regeneration™ is a phrase that has actually been trademarked by Sunrider International, the largest herbal health food company in the world. Dr. Tei-Fu Chen developed the Philosophy of Regeneration™ after thorough study of Chinese and Western medicines. According to the Philosophy of Regeneration™, the body can balance itself when nourished and cleansed with the proper nutrition. That is why all natural foods concentrated into powerful health drink formulas can help the body keep a balance between yin (nourish) and yang (cleanse) and the five organ systems.
This sounds somewhat complicated, partly because of the complex nature of the human body. However, the simplicity of it is that when all your systems are in balance, your body is functioning so efficiently that it has time to “regenerate” damaged cells into something healthier. When you are taking in the proper nutrients through all natural foods that have been concentrated into these powerful health drinks, your body has the resources to create and sustain perfect health for life. This way, instead of having to spend so much energy digesting a hamburger, your body has the energy to work on areas that might have been damaged.

One sunny afternoon last summer John could feel the warm rays of the sun as he pulled into the gas station in his shiny new black corvette convertible. He remembered handing the salesman a check for his entire savings and the salesman giving him the owners manual with all the required specs so the car could achieve the highest level of performance. He pulled up close to the air and water station. After he opened the locking gas cap he began to fill the tank with the water hose, he decided the 50 cents for the water was better than the $4.00 a gallon for gas.”
Seems rather absurd, doesn’t it?
That is why it is so very hard for me to understand why there is even a controversy over health and fast food consumption having negative effects. If you look at your bodies requirements for the highest quality of life you can achieve and you understand that everything you consume is where all of these required elements come from, then it is very easy to understand if you want optimum health, then and only then, will you fully understand the real reasons fast food consumption has such negative effects upon your body.
Your health is a direct reflection of the daily choices you make about your diet, nutrition and fitness. Many people are now turning to holistic healing, natural remedies and alternative medicine to help them achieve their optimum level of health. These practices rely heavily on functional medicine, where the underlying cause is diagnosed and treated instead of the symptoms.

Health food doesn’t need a definition, does it? We all know what health food is it’s yogurt and granola, whole-grain cereal and organically grown vegetables and fruit. It’s 100% natural, no preservatives or dyes, unadulterated, pure. When you put all that together, you should have healthy food, yet all too often, what’s marketed as health food these days barely classifies as food, let alone health food.
Take a look at one of our favorite health food choices - yogurt. It hit supermarket shelves in the early seventies, though it had been available before that in health food stores and restaurants.
Real yogurt has two ingredients: milk (whole, skim or low fat) and live yogurt cultures. That’s health food - calcium, vitamin D, vitamin A, protein. Next time you’re at the supermarket, take a look at the dairy case. You’ll find row after row of hyper-sweetened brightly colored rainbow swirled and candy-sprinkled yogurt packaged in ways that appeal to our littlest consumers - children.
Millions of parents buy the enticing packages, secure that because it’s yogurt, they’re buying food that’s healthy for their children. One look at the label, though, and it’s clear that these kiddy yogurts (as well as most of the yogurt that’s marketed to adults) are a far cry from heath food. Some of the most popular yogurts for children contain anywhere from 3 to 10 added teaspoons of sugar.

Chinese food. It’s certainly tasty enough, but is it healthy? In these modern days of looking good and feeling good this is a question that might often be on the lips of anyone who has just devoured an egg fu yung. Well the answer to the question is that, yes, authentic Chinese cooking is very healthy. In fact the Chinese diet might be one of the healthiest in the world.
Sadly the same can not be said about the meals prepared at some Chinese restaurants or take-aways, where the food is often prepared with highly saturated fats and the meat used in the preparation of the recipes is not exactly of the leanest cut. The meals prepared in establishments like this are neither authentic, or healthy. Although they might very well be extremely tasty. But at what cost to the diners health?
Good, authentic - and healthy - Chinese food is prepared and cooked with poly-unsaturated oils and has no use for dairy ingredients such as cream, butter, or cheese. Meat is included in the recipes but is not of an abundant quantity. So lovers of authentic Chinese cooking are easily able to avoid the dangers associated with the intake of too much animal fat in their diet.

Do you eat sugar-free diet foods in your quest to lose weight? How effective has it been for you? You might be surprised to find out that most people do NOT lose weight with sugar-free diets foods. They may even gain weight. In addition, foods that are sugar-free almost always have artificial sweeteners added, and this is bad news. Manufacturers have gone to great lengths to convince you of the safety of their sugar substitutes, but many studies and many reports by consumers tell another story.
Artificial Sweeteners Cause Increased Intake of Calories
Artificial sweeteners found in almost all sugar-free diet foods seem to give you MORE of a sweet tooth, not less, and tend to make people eat more in general, not less! This is especially true of beverages like diet sodas, but also true of other sugar-free items. A study that was released to the American Diabetes Association in 2005 showed that the chance of being overweight actually rises 65% with each diet soda you consume every day! Did you know that?
Diet Sodas Contain Artificial Sweeteners and More Toxic Ingredients
1 out of every 2 adults drink diet soda today, in spite of its list of ingredients that include artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, saccharin or sucralose, artificial color and preservatives, phosphoric acid and natural flavors, which invariably include MSG. Are you perhaps still a diet soda drinker? Did you know that preservatives such as sodium benzoate are often carcinogenic, phosphoric acid may cause osteoporosis and higher rates of bone fractures in girls, and natural flavors that contain MSG are known neurotoxins?

Soluble Fiber Amounts In Food Help Combat Diabetes
Regulating the soluble fiber amounts in food that you consume from it promotes the functioning of hormone insulin and also helps to keep the blood sugar levels in the target range. This reduces the dependence on medication. Soluble fiber is beneficial in reducing the concentration of cholesterol in your blood. This does not only reduce your chance of developing heart disease but it also decreases your chances of developing arterial complications. Soluble fiber increases the flow of bile acids through the digestive tract and this helps the body to rid itself of fatty substances like cholesterol. More bile acids are produced in this process so it is like a vicious circle. The more the soluble fiber amounts in food, the more bile acids flow through your system, the more cholesterol is removed, the more bile acids are produced.
High soluble fiber intake will help you to lose weight and to keep it off too. The fiber is indigestible and so you feel fuller for longer if you eat foods high in fiber. You will also consume less calories and your body will rid itself of cholesterol more efficiently.
You can find a wealth of information concerning the amounts of soluble fiber in foods. There are many books about the subject and a tremendous amount of information available on the internet. One good source of insoluble fiber is oat bran.
